Getting Only the Best: Identifying High-Quality CBD Oil

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is becoming popular as a supplement because it addresses health conditions such as inflammation and PTSD. As the market for organic oil grows, unscrupulous dealers attempt to capitalise on this popularity by offering fake or substandard products, misleading consumers.

So, before you purchase organic oil, determine if the product you are eyeing to buy is of the best quality. Here’s how.

Check the Oil’s THC Level

Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), a substance found in hemp, is responsible for producing a psychoactive effect on the body. If a company processes the plant poorly, the resulting product may contain a high concentration of THC. Supplements with high THC may cause side effects, such as paranoia, lethargy, and memory impairment.

When shopping for CBD oil, make sure the oil contains not more than 0.3 per cent of THC. If you don’t see any THC information on the label, ask the retailer for the lab results.

Look for the Whole-Plant Label

Companies that use the entire hemp to manufacture CBD oil produce a premium product. By utilising the whole plant, they make sure that the oil contains the CBD, along with other ingredients that work synergistically with CBD. Having all these ingredients may enhance the benefits of the supplement. When you’re looking for organic CBD oil, inspect the supplement’s label to find out if the manufacturer used the whole plant.

Know Where the Manufacturer Sources Hemp

Hemp quality is crucial in making high-quality oil. Hemp is a hyperaccumulator, which means that the plant easily absorbs anything in the soil. If the hemp grew on rich and healthy ground, for instance, the quality of the plant would be excellent.

On the other hand, if the hemp grew on poor soil, the resulting plant will be of poor quality as well. CBD oil manufactured from a low-quality plant is unsafe for consumption.

Sadly, some manufacturers care only about profit and disregard the fact that they grow their plant in a toxic or substandard soil condition. If you’re searching for high-quality CBD oil, make sure the manufacturer sourced their hemp from good soil.

Research the Vendor’s Production Methods

Due to the CBD oil industry’s young age, not many regulations exist to control the manufacturing process. It means that companies use different extraction methods to process the oil from hemp. Some companies, whose only focus is to make a quick buck, resort to cheap and unsafe methods when manufacturing the supplement. Before purchasing any CBD supplement from a retailer, research the extraction methods used by the company. It is best to go with products processed through supercritical carbon dioxide extraction or ethanol.

In Search of Relief: CBD Oil as an Alternative to Painkillers

The Home Office has recently launched a review into the medical uses of cannabis-based products. Doctors may soon be able to prescribe cannabis-based products for epilepsy and other medical conditions legally. While cannabis itself is not considered medicine and is illegal, cannabidiol (CBD) is legally sold and may be considered as medicine if advertised as such.

In 2016, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) issued guidelines stating that products containing CBD that are used for medicinal purposes are medicine and can only be sold or produced by licenced companies. Selling organic CBD oil in the UK as food supplements allow retailers and manufacturers to remain within the law.

Growing Popularity of Using CBD for Pain Relief

CBD oil and products containing it are legal as long as its tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) content remains less than 0.2%. THC is the compound that gives users a “high.” CBD oil, especially in pure form and when derived from industrial hemp, has little to no THC. As a result, it has no psychoactive effect and can be safely ingested by nearly any patient, even children with health problems, to help manage their condition.

In fact, patients with chronic pain and other chronic conditions like multiple sclerosis have turned to CBD oil for better pain relief. The Cannabis Trades Association UK shares that the number of CBD oil users has doubled since last year; it now reaches 250,000.

Unlike narcotic painkillers, CBD oil provides relief from chronic pain without any adverse effects. It can be taken in several forms as well; CBD oil can be ingested, inhaled or applied topically through creams or gels to provide optimum pain relief. Patients are able to use CBD oil regularly without getting addicted or dependent on the product. Moreover, there has yet to be any reported case of CBD overdose.

The Endocannabinoid System

CBD oil and other cannabis-derived products work by replicating a natural process in the human body. The endocannabinoid system (ECS ) refers to a set of cell receptors in the body that helps regulate day-to-day bodily functions like mood, sleep and motor control. The primary receptors of the ECS, often referred to as cannabinoid receptors 1 and 2 (CB1 and CB2), are found throughout the body, although the nervous and immune systems have a higher concentration of CB1 and CB2, respectively.

Anandamide, a naturally occurring cannabinoid in the body, has a similar effect to cannabis-derived compounds, such as THC and CBD. It binds and stimulates the cannabinoid cell receptors to maintain optimal balance or homeostasis in the body. Anandamide causes several physiological effects, including altering blood pressure and pain response, to return the body’s internal balance to normal levels. CBD reduces the breaking down of anandamide, which helps improve the body’s response to health problems.

How Does CBD Oil Reduce Your Anxiety?

Doctors can now prescribe medicinal cannabis products to patients with special clinical needs after the UK government made it legal. Studies show that cannabidiol (CBD), a compound found in the cannabis plant, provides several health benefits.

In the UK, organic CBD oil is already available. The chemical compound can be effective in managing inflammation, rheumatoid arthritis, epilepsy, diabetes and other conditions. Cannabidiol is also beneficial for when you’re experiencing anxiety.

Anxiety Disorder

The UK National Health Service (NHS) describes anxiety as a mild or a severe feeling of unease. Anyone can feel anxious in different situations, such as during exams, job interviews or medical tests. Although this is normal, there are people who have difficulties controlling their anxiety.

When these feelings of tension and worries become extensive and occur without triggers, you may have anxiety.
One of the types of anxiety disorder is the generalised anxiety disorder (GAD). Having GAD means you’re unable to control your uneasiness about certain matters in your daily life.

Another type of anxiety is social anxiety disorder (social phobia). As the name suggests, social situations trigger this sort of disorder. On the other hand, constant panic attacks, with no clear reason, may indicate that you have panic disorder. You may feel confused, dizzy and nauseous when you feel intense terror.

CBD Reduces Anxiety Level

Among the compounds present in the cannabis plant, CBD has the ability to treat anxiety. Meanwhile, another chemical compound from the plant, known as tetrahydrocannabinol, may have a reverse effect on treating anxiety.

Scientists recommend taking CBD alone to help reduce, if not eliminate, anxiety. The reason is that THC could cause paranoia and worry. This compound activates an area in your brain that’s responsible for fear.

CBD is ideal if you experience conditions like GAD, panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, post-traumatic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. This compound releases therapeutic effects and can lessen anxiety as well as minimises its severity.

Several studies also found out that it could lower social anxiety disorder. Brain scans revealed that there were changes in blood flow in the regions of the brain tied to anxiety. Apart from feeling better, the response of the participants’ brains to anxiety changed.

Ways to Use CBD Oil

Since the legalisation of cannabis-based products, you can access them in different compositions, level of effectiveness and purity. The Advisory Council on the Misuse of Drugs (ACMD) ordered not to give raw cannabis of unknown composition a medication status.

Exploring the Different Ways to Take Organic CBD Oil

Taking organic cannabidiol (CBD) oil is as easy as dropping the required amount of oil under the tongue. While the process looks simple, many users find the bitter and sharp taste of the oil to be overpowering.

The good news is there are alternatives in taking CBD oil. If you find the earthy taste of the oil hard to overcome and want to explore other avenues to take the supplement, check out these options.

You have the choice of ingesting organic CBD oil in a tasteless, easy-to-swallow soft gel capsule. It’s an excellent option for users who don’t want to taste the uninviting flavours of CBD organic oil.

CBD Oil Mixed in Drinks

Mixing CBD oil with drinks, such as smoothies and protein shakes, is another alternative for people who don’t waste the regular taste of the oil but struggle to swallow capsules and pills. It’s also great for people who are always on the go. Just add a small amount of the organic oil into a blender when preparing a protein shake, smoothie or other blended beverage. Given that average CBD doses consist only of a few drops, you can rest easy knowing that the oil will not change the overall taste of your blended drink.

CBD Oil Mixed in Food

Another great way to mask the taste of CBD oil is to mix it with food. CBD oil is highly versatile, which means you can add it to your favourite dishes. If you’re going to cook food with CBD oil as one of your ingredients, take note of the following:

  • Don’t place the oil over direct heat. Heating the oil too high causes it to lose terpenes, compounds that work in conjunction with CBD to boost its overall effects. It also brings out more of the oil’s bitterness.
  • When you’re starting out, less is more. Putting in too much CBD in a recipe usually results in wasted oil and terrible flavours.
  • Stir as much as possible. It allows you to distribute the CBD evenly throughout the dish.

Topicals like Balms and Creams

On top of taking CBD oil orally, you can apply this supplement on your skin. CBD-infused creams, salves and balms are popular methods for the non-oral application of CBD. The anti-inflammatory properties of CBD can relieve aching muscles and joints.

If you’re going to apply CBD oil on your skin, mix it with your regular body lotion. Simply add the required dose of CBD to your lotion of choice, mix it, and apply it on a tiny area of your skin as a test. Your skin should quickly absorb the lotion and infuse well with the organic oil. If this isn’t the case, mix the oil with a lotion that has lower fat content.

CBD Oil: Could it Help Treat Pancreatic Cancer Patients?

A substance found in cannabis plants may hold the power to boosting treatment for patients with pancreatic cancer.

Researchers from the Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) in the UK and the Curtin University in Australia have discovered that cannabidoil (CBD) can improve the survival rates of patients with pancreatic cancer. The results show that administering CBD oil alongside chemotherapy medication can improve a patient’s prognosis.

Scientists from the QMUL revealed that mice undergoing chemotherapy for the disease survived almost three times longer after receiving CBD.

Pancreatic Cancer Has One of the Lowest Survival Rates

Pancreatic cancer causes malignant cells to form in the tissues of the pancreas. The pancreatic gland is a part of the digestive system responsible for secreting digestive juices into the small intestine. It also regulates the body’s sugar levels.

In England, those who live in the most deprived areas are more prone to pancreatic cancer. Every year, more than 9,000 people are diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in the UK alone. In fact, the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network predicts that cases will reach over 12,000 cases by 2030.

The life expectancy for people with pancreatic cancer has barely changed in the last 40 years. Only a few treatments like palliative care are available for patients with the disease. With the poor, five-year survival rate of patients with pancreatic cancer, experts are turning to new treatments.

A Mouse Model of Pancreatic Cancer

The new study shows that CBD is effective in improving pancreatic cancer treatment. Unlike the more common tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD does not cause psychoactive effects.

The researchers used a mouse model of pancreatic cancer, where they treated the subjects with CBD and a chemotherapy drug called ‘gemcitabine’. Results of the combination treatment show that the rodents that received CBD survived three times as long as mice from a control group that had only received gemcitabine.

The results of the study reveal that the drug combination blocks the GPR55 protein, which slows the growth of pancreatic cancer cells.

CBD Already Approved in Clinics

CBD is legal in the country, and medicinal cannabis is already available on prescription in the UK. Prof. Falasca from QMUL is confident that using CBD in clinical trials can pave the way towards testing the drug on humans. Since CBD products are less regulated than their THC counterparts, it is easier to get them on the market.

More than just improving treatment for pancreatic cancer, the researchers note that CBD can improve the symptoms related to chemotherapy, including pain, nausea and vomiting.

Pancreatic cancer is one of the hardest types of cancers to treat. While the results of the new study look promising, scientists are still uncertain about how CBD could react with other drugs, like chemotherapies, in people. Additionally, the GPR55 protein is only a major driver in about one-third of cancer cases, so not all patients could benefit from the new treatment. Still, it could spell the difference between a life lost to pancreatic cancer and a life saved.

What to Expect Following Medical Cannabis’ Legalisation Announcement

Following the announcement by Home Secretary Sajid Javid last July regarding cannabis legalisation, UK patients in need of organic cannabis oil and other medical cannabis-based products will soon need only a doctor’s prescription to purchase them legally. While there is no given date for legalisation, sources say it may take effect by autumn this year.

This announcement means a lot of implications for the public’s health. What will this mean regarding cannabis’ legal status? What can cannabidiol (CBD) do for patients who use it? Finally, how will all this affect the public in the long term? Read more
